How to Keep Invisalign Aligners Clean and Clear

To keep your treatment hygienic, you should clean your Invisalign aligners every time you brush your teeth, which should ideally be after every meal. At a minimum, they require a thorough cleaning twice a day—once in the morning and once before bed.

Additionally, avoid using harsh chemicals like bleach or alcohol-based cleaners, as these can break down the material and are not safe to put back into your mouth.

Invisalign aligners typically become cloudy due to a buildup of plaque and minerals from your saliva. If the trays are not brushed thoroughly, this buildup creates a hazy film that makes the aligners visible to others.

Staining, on the other hand, is usually caused by dietary habits. If you drink coffee, tea, red wine, or soda while wearing your aligners, the pigments will get trapped against the plastic. Smoking or using tobacco products is another major culprit, as the nicotine and tar will quickly turn the clear trays a yellowish-brown color. To keep them crystal clear, always remove them before consuming anything other than water.
